NothingButNets.net - Send a net. Save a life.
Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign coordinated by the United Nations Foundation to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. It was formed after an incredible response to a Rick Reilly column that appeared in Sports Illustrated in 2006.
Malaria is a disease caused by a blood parasite which is transmitted by mosquitoes. It infects more than 500 million people a year and kills more than a million. One person dies about every 30 seconds.
Despite the magnitude of the problem, there is a simple and cost-effective solution to prevent malaria deaths - bed nets.
The nets work by creating a protective barrier against mosquitoes at night, when the vast majority of transmissions occur. They are usually hung above the center of a bed or sleeping space so that it completely covers a sleeping family. The nets are treated with pyrethroid insecticides, a much longer lasting synthetic variant of the formulations commonly used in MistAway's mosquito misting systems.
For just $10 raised by Nothing But Nets, the UN Foundation can purchase a bed net, deliver it to a family, and explain its use. A family of four can sleep under the net, safe from malaria, for up to four years.
The principals of MistAway Systems proudly support this fantastic cause. Please click NothingButNets.net and send a net . . . or a bunch of 'em.
